The reserves got their first win of the season – albeit on penalties.
Maidstone didn’t turn up for the first half which called keeper Marc Powell to make a fine save to his right hand side from a Lordswood shot eight yards out. Just minutes later Lordswood hit the left upright, and somehow the ball managed to stay out. Sam Hasler and Tom Cachett linked well down the left hand side that created a good chance for Steve Elliot, who put his shot narrowly wide.
The visitors took the lead just before half time when the ball went through the heart of The Stones defence from a goal kick – sixteen-year-old John Fregene with a well taken lob into the top right corner.
Half time was a very heated dressing room, after whichMaidstonetook the game to Lordswood switching to a 4-3-3 formation.
Matt Garner dominated the centre of midfield, while Jack Simon and Nathan Faulkes (pictured) linked up well for Faulkes to tap home from eight yards.
More chances went begging when Tom Cachett made excellent runs into the box but could not beat the Lordswood keeper. Faulkes had a shot headed of the line and Jack Simon’s header could only find the post. Mark James made an impact on the game with a good physical presence up front.
With the game finishing 1-1 after 120 minutes it had to be decided on penalties.
Marc Powell saved the first Lordswood penalty down to his left hand side, Steve Elliot, Sam Hasler and Nathan Faulkes made no mistake. Lordswood missed the target with their fourth penalty, allowing Jack Simon to win it for The Stones.
