Maidstone United have now hit thirty goals in just six cup games this season as this time fellow Ryman One South side Merstham were on the receiving end of a thrashing.

After failing to take their chances against Whyteleafe on Saturday, Maidstone United made sure they made the most of the opportunities that came their way and Alex Waugh lead from the front with a hat—trick against a Merstham side which offered little resistance.

The visitors started confidently enough though and with six minutes played, they had the first attempt of the evening when Roscoe D’Sane received the ball with his back to goal and despite being under pressure he turned and shot wide of the far post.

However, just two minutes later Maidstone took an early lead when James Pinnock flicked the ball into the path of Waugh who sent a nice finish low into the bottom right hand corner of the net.

Shortly afterwards, the visitors went close to a quick response from Omar Folkes and the game then entered a lull until it was brought to life again on 32 minutes thanks to a delightful finish from Danny Lye who clipped a left footed effort past Michael Lidbury from the edge of the area.

Three minutes later, Maidstone added a third after some lax defending from Merstham who failed to respond when a corner from Alex Flisher picked out the unmarked Alex Waugh who headed in his second goal of the evening.

The Stones continued to dominate and they had a couple of further attempts on goal through Michael Phillips and Waugh before they rounded off the half in style when Flisher’s corner from the right curled straight into the far side of the net.

There was little to note in the second half until the 69th minute when Fabio Sarvava’s shot was comfortably held by Charlie Mitten and then Maidstone immediately went on the attack and substitute Tom Cackett crossed to the unmarked Waugh who headed straight at Lidbury.

However, just one minute later Waugh completed his hat-trick after substitute Tom Mills raced onto a good ball over the top from Karl Knight and he squared the ball to Waugh who had time to bring the ball under control before knocking a simple finish past the stranded Lidbury.

Then with 13 minutes remaining Mills rounded off a good evening for The Stones when he ran into the area and smashed the ball into the net at the near post.
