Last Monday’s match at Worthing was probably one of the worst games of football I have seen in a long time.
I must admit at 50-55 minutes in I thought the game had nil-nil written all over it, they weren’t creating much and neither were we, however Ben gave away a free kick and they scored from that, and from then on it was an uphill battle.
I changed our captain ahead of the match with Shaun Welford taking the armband from Graeme Andrews. Graeme has not been having the best of times in these first few matches, and I hope that this move will take a bit of pressure of him and allow him to concentrate on his own game. People, myself included, have had a bit of a moan at Graeme, asking him to give me a bit more as captain, but now he does not have to worry about this and I felt we already saw an improvement in his performance on Monday at Worthing.
With Flisher, Bewick and Draycott all out of the side, I have moved to sign a wide player in the shape of Les Thompson. We tried Tom Mills out on the left on Monday, but it did not suit him and he wasn’t fully comfortable, so we have brought in Les to give us another option and some balance in the side. He is a pacy and direct winger who is confident attacking his full back, and we have invited him to show us what he can do and to try and earn a long-term deal with us, and he is keen to do that.
With regards to our match with Corinthian-Casuals, I hope the boys can begin to get their confidence back and start a good run of results. Every mistake we are making at the moment is resulting in a goal, but if the players work hard and do the right things they can make their own luck, and then hopefully these mistakes won’t end up with us conceding.
I have full confidence in this squad, you don’t become a bad team overnight, and hopefully if the players go out and give 100% against Corinthian we will get the result we want.
