Maidstone United have signed left winger Ben Greenhalgh.
Twenty-year-old Ben, who is a coach at the Maidstone United Academy and for our Under 18 Kent Premier side, is best known for winning the Sky One TV programme ‘Football’s Next Star’, earning a contract with Internazionale, then managed by Jose Mourinho.
After a loan spell at Serie C1/A side Calcio Como, Greenhalgh returned to England 2011 whereupon he signed for Welling United.
He then joined Blue Square Bet Premier side Ebbsfleet United in the summer of 2012, scoring a delightful goal for the Fleet against the Stones in a friendly back in July.
Ben said upon signing up for the Stones: “Jay Saunders has been keeping up with how I have been doing through Jack Parkinson (Stones Academy manager), and following the injury to Alex Flisher there was a chance for me to come in.
“It has been a good, yet frustrating time for me at Ebbsfleet after signing in the summer. I haven’t had the game-time I would have wanted, with my minutes coming off the bench, it has been a good experience playing in the Conference and getting back into English football, but I need to get playing again basically.
“I know there is a great support down here and it’s the sort of conditions I want to be playing in. Some people might say it’s a drop down, but I want to get games and this is a club going places and it should be a good experience.”
Ben has made ten appearances for the Fleet this season and will go straight into contention for the game against Crawley Down Gatwick.
