Maidstone United have released two players as boss Jay Saunders prepares a team to take on the National League South.
Defenders Sonny Miles and Phil Starkey are leaving the Gallagher Stadium after a season with the club.
Miles joined from Tonbridge Angels a year ago after making more than 200 appearances for the west Kent club. He played an important part in the Ryman Premier Division’s best defensive set-up.
Starkey signed from AFC Hornchurch last September and put in his best performance in the goalless draw against Dulwich Hamlet in the penultimate game of the season.
Saunders said: “This is one of the toughest jobs as a manager, especially when you’re dealing with a championship team and players who are still on a high from a fortnight ago.
“Sonny and Starks will be missed on and off the pitch. Both were popular characters around the club and I know supporters will join me in wishing them good luck for the future.”
In other team news: Craig Stone, who was on loan from Dover Athletic, will not be returning to the Stones next season.
