Stones boss Jay Saunders and captain Steve Watt attended a civic reception this afternoon to celebrate local sporting success.
The event, which was organised by the Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Daniel Moriarty, marked league and cup triumphs from three of the town’s clubs.
Moriarty commended the Stones for winning the Ryman Premier Division title and making it to the second round proper of the FA Cup. He also praised the excellent attendances at the Gallagher Stadium and the impact the club’s return has had on the town.
Players and officials from Maidstone Rugby Club and Weavering Warriors were also at the reception held in Maidstone Town Hall.
The 2014/15 season was perhaps Maidstone Rugby Club’s most successful in recent times. The first XV finished as champions of London 2 (SE), were London & SE Divisional winners of the Intermediate Cup, and went on to take the RFU national title with a scintillating performance at Twickenham.
Weavering Warriors won Late Red 3 at the first attempt, overhauling Sheppey on the last day of the season. The 2015/16 season will see the Park Wood-based club playing in Premier 2, one league below the RFU’s main structure.
