Our matchday programme seller, Angela Reed, has been nominated for a 2015 FA Community Award – presented by McDonalds – in the category of Outstanding Contribution to Community Football.
She’s won the Kent FA award and also the South East region award and has now made the last eight nationwide for the FA People’s Award.
That award is decided by people voting. Voting closes later today (31 July) and the award ceremony is at Wembley this Sunday (2 August).
The award recognises Angela’s commitment and dedication to Invicta Sunday FC. The team was formed in 1990, primarily as a supporters team for Maidstone United, rapidly expanded and joined the Maidstone and Mid Kent Sunday League in 1991, and are now the third longest serving members of the league.
Angela said: “I am just astounded that my nomination has got to the final 8 nationwide! It’s all a bit too much to take in, surreal even! I just enjoy being a part of the football family and like any family, Invicta Sunday, has been through it all but we are still going.”
The longevity of the club owes everything to Angela, who for over 20 years has been club secretary, kit washer, match organiser, meeting attendee and has even run the line when the team were short of players.
She has only missed two matches in 24 seasons; she was even running on to the pitch as a physiotherapist six days before the birth of her daughter in 1994.
