Jay’s Journal

Preparations for tomorrow’s trip to Gosport Borough have gone quite well this week. Obviously we were disappointed to have got no points from the two matches over the bank holiday and I think we should have got something from those games.

We had the players in on Tuesday and made sure we got their spirits up. Then last night we concentrated on various things for the match tomorrow. In a way its quite nice that the pressure is off us as after our last couple of results. I guess some people won’t be expecting us to get much from the game at Gosport but it would be good if we could go there and pick up three points.

There are still a couple of positions which we are not totally certain about. I will read the report about Gosport again tonight and also I want to speak to some people who know about them.

We are always looking for players. We don’t have anything lined up at the moment. You always want to try and improve your squad. This week James Rogers joined Folkestone Invicta on loan so he can get some games and we have made Frannie Collin available for a loan move too. It’s important that where ever players end up on loan is right for both us and the player as well.

Our quality in the final third has let us down in recent matches although defensively we haven’t been too bad. Last year we scored goals but this time around we have struggled a little bit so we have been working on the final third in training.

We need to show Gosport respect tomorrow. They are unbeaten this season and they are a very good side. At the same time, we need to have a really good go. We might set up differently and so we have worked on things in training which will hopefully help us.

Steve Watt sustained a head injury against Eastbourne Borough. He was able to train on both days this week but couldn’t head the ball. We need to make sure that he isn’t going to cause the cut to open back up during a game so if that is still a risk, he won’t be available tomorrow. As Steve couldn’t play against Chelmsford, Jamie Coyle came into the side. I thought that Jamie did very well and was one of our best performers in that match.
