Jay’s Journal

You always look forward to playing teams at the top of the table and it is no different with our game away at Ebbsfleet tomorrow. Not only that but it is a local derby, a big crowd is expected and the ground and pitch at Ebbsfleet is good too.

Kent derbies are nice to be involved with and there is a lot of hype just like when we have played Margate in the past and I am sure the same thing will happen when we play Dartford this season as well. The players enjoy being in front of big crowds. Ebbsfleet are top of the league and favourites to when the league so it is a chance for us to test ourselves against them.

It would have been nice if this fixture hadn’t come round so soon after our home game against them early on in the season. I don’t really get that to be honest but we have got to get on with it. We will treat it as any other game as well.

Our match against Ebbsfleet is a different sort of match to the FA Cup tie which they lost against Chelmsford in the week. Ebbsfleet are top of the league, I am sure their manager Daryl McMahon will have them up for it and they will have had a good few days of recovery since the Chelmsford game. They are unbeaten in the league and in top spot so I am sure they will be in good spirits.

I hope our supporters will get behind the boys tomorrow and they have been good all season so far. If we are having bad spells in the game then if they make some noise it will really spur us on. I always say it makes a massive difference to the lads and in general, our away support is usually a lot louder than when we play at home so with luck that will continue tomorrow.

I am not one for making massive changes to the side but if there is something I think we could alter to help us in our next fixture then we will do it. As always, I will speak with Nicky and Jamie in the morning before we confirm our starting 11 for the match.

Finally, I think Lee Worgan’s award for being Vanarama National League South player of the month is well deserved. If you go through the month without conceding a goal in the league then that is a good accomplishment. He would be the first to say that he would thank the people who are playing in front of him but some of the saves he made during the month have been superb as well. If you look back, the save where he tipped the shot from Bath City against the post sums Lee up. When he is involved in games where he hasn’t got a lot to do he can still show his ability and class by pulling off saves which are impressive as the one in that particular match.

Brilliant result v Ebbsfleet – you really have a decent side. You’re the man Jay who will have the stadium packed every game.
