We haven’t spoken to the players about the Yeovil game yet, other than to mention it is taking place on the Sunday rather than Saturday. We said last night at training that tomorrow’s match against Concord Rangers is as big a game as the Yeovil game, if not bigger.
We have got to be up for it tomorrow as we really want to keep our good run going. Everyone is in high spirits and there is a good buzz around the squad. We are not silly, we know it is not going to last forever but clearly we want to continue it for as long as we can. It is important that we go into the Yeovil game on the back of a win as that will give us plenty of confidence when we are facing a team from a higher league.
It is not going to be easy tomorrow. Concord have had a lot of defeats but they got a good result against Hemel Hemstead Town last weekend which will have given them a massive boost. They also had an excellent win in the week in the Essex Senior Cup. We are not underestimating them. I have known their manager, Adam Flanagan, a long time and he will have them up for it.
There are no straight orward matches at this level. You only have to look at the St Albans game for proof of that. Concord is not an easy place to go and their side has got loads of experience in it as a number of them have played at this level for a good few years now.
Concord had a good start to the season and then had a bad couple of months. It is probably the opposite to us in that we didn’t have the best of starts to the season but we have now had a couple of good months. Things change quickly in football and they are a side who are capable of putting a run together and if they do that, they won’t be down the bottom end of the table for too long.
Jack Paxman is suspended for tomorrow so James Rogers will come into midfield and he brings lots of experience to the team. It is a bit of a blow to lose Jack as he has been a big part in our recent run but suspensions are part and parcel of football. We have also got a couple of knocks and niggles in the team and one of two players might have to have a fitness test before the game.
Mitchell Pinnock has returned from loan and so now comes back into contention as well. The squad is looking strong and it is quite big. In a couple of weeks, and perhaps after the FA Cup, if people are still not getting minutes then we might have to look at the size of the squad again. But this just shows you that the lads have been doing well and keeping their shirts which has made it difficult for the other players.
