Clubs in the National League have voted in favour of artificial turf pitches in the top flight of the non-league game.
Subject to the rule change being approved by the Football Association, 3G will be extended into The National League (formerly Conference Premier) for the 2016/17 season.
Also, in one of the most significant developments since this type of surface was allowed in the FA Cup competition proper, a majority of League Two clubs have voted to allow 3G pitches in their division – paving the way for formal approval of 3G at this level of the Football League in the next few months.
Artificial pitches were introduced to National League North and South this season. The Stones and Sutton United now look set to be joined by other clubs from the regional and national divisions, with several clubs now preparing to install 3G pitches.
