Charlie Girling charity match

Great turnout for Charlie’s charity match

More than 1,400 people came to the Gallagher Stadium today to celebrate the life of Charlie Girling.

The home of the Stones hosted a charity match in which teachers from Maplesden Noakes School, alongside Charlie’s dad and brother, took on a side of former professional and semi-pro footballers. Students from the Buckland Road school turned out in force to cheer on their team and remember a much-loved friend.

Before the game, Maplesden headteacher Richard Owen paid tribute to the 12-year-old, who tragically died in July while on an International Scouting Jamboree in Finland.

Funds raised at today’s game will be donated to the 1st Aylesford Scouts. Charlie had been part of 1st Aylesford since the age of six and his family would like to raise money so that the scout group can continue to develop and offer local children the fantastic opportunities in scouting that he had.

  • If you were unable to make the game but would like to contribute, please visit the school’s JustGiving page.
