Maidstone United Girls have won the Kent Reliance U14 Cup after a 5-0 win over Thanet Colts.
Goals from Megan Wilson (2), Lois Robinson, Grace Mayhead and Storey Tubb secured silverware for the Stones.
Team manager Matt Brooker: “After the first 10 to 15 minutes we got into the game a little more. The turning point was the penalty – after that we didn’t look back in the first half. I thought we looked comfortable and probably deserved our 3-0 lead at half time.
“We knew they’d come at us in the second half and we had to bed in, ride out that pressure and go again. We looked to counter when we could and ultimately I thought we were the better team on the day. I am really chuffed for the girls.”
Today’s 5-0 victory was preceded by emphatic wins in the previous rounds:
- First round: 7-1 vs. Petts Wood
- Quarter final: 7-0 vs. Dartford
- Semi final: 8-0 vs. Ashford
The season is far from over, with the league up for grabs and another cup final to look forward to.
Matt added: “This year we’re playing a year up, so under 14s playing at under 15 level. We’re second in the league, eight points behind the leaders but with games in hand, so we’re going very well. So far, we’re unbeaten and we’ve made it to the league cup final of the under 15 category, which will be played in May.
“So far this season’s been very successful and it was certainly the right decision to push them and challenge them to play a year up.”
Best of luck to the team, let’s hope they can secure a league and cup treble.
