Lee Worgan

Winter woes for Worgs

No-one is more relieved to see the back of the snow than Lee Worgan.

The Stones shot-stopper had to endure a trip to Bluewater on a rare Saturday afternoon off.

Worgan said: “About three hours in, I was wishing I was in the freezing cold at Solihull! It’s physically more demanding walking around the shops than you would think.”

The Beast from the East wiped out all but one National League fixture on Saturday and played havoc with training schedules in the week running up to it.

He said: “Last week was difficult. It’s tough for the management team because they’ve got to keep us ticking over and finding us a facility where we could train.

“It was frustrating but the positive you can take from it was that it was good to get a break. We’ve had the chance to work on some things and hopefully will be fresh going into those last 11 games.”

The Stones are home to Macclesfield Town tomorrow evening, with Worgan in confident mood ahead of the clash with the league leaders.

He said: “To be honest with you, I’d take playing the teams at the top. Our season has got to turn at some point. The performances are there, the results must come, so why not against the top of the table team.

“They will be a tough test – they’re top of the league for a reason – but hopefully the break has done us good and we can turn this form around.

“We take confidence from the win at their place and we beat them here as well last season. Hopefully those results will help us and give us that little bit of impetus we need.”
