When Maidstone United Raiders player Reece Van-Sertima was unable to join teammates at Wembley on Saturday, his family made sure he wasn’t cut out of the day.
Reece was part of the squad that won the youth disability category of the FA People’s Cup last month but he couldn’t make the Emirates FA Cup final due to a family holiday.
To make sure he was there on the day – despite being several thousand miles away – his family arranged for a life-size cardboard cut-out for his teammates to take along.
Reece, who was wearing a full Stones kit, was pictured at various times of the day, including the minibus journey, on his seat inside the stadium and even getting a post-match ice cream from the van outside Wembley.
Lorraine Humm said: “Reece was so disappointed he couldn’t be there, but his family came up with a novel way that he could join his teammates.
“We did get a fair few looks and comments and he was even questioned by a Met Police officer! We’ve Whatsapped some pics and the family absolutely love them.”
