Maidstone United 3-2 Brentford B // Pre-season friendly // Attendance: 515 // Tuesday 17 July
Maidstone United have kept their winning pre-season run going after they came from two goals behind to beat Brentford B with substitute Jamar Loza getting a late winner.
The Bees proved to be tougher opposition than Folkestone Invicta and Nottingham Forest although it was the Stones who had the best of the initial chances. The closest Maidstone came early on was when Shamir Mullings won a header which Andre Coker did well to burst onto and he got a low shot away which Patrik Gunnarsson ensured went wide with a one handed low save.
Then on 34 minutes, Maidstone came within inches of taking the lead. Some neat build up play concluded with Michee Efete crossing from the right and Jack Richards’ side footed volley smacked against the right post.
But the deadlock was broken three minutes later. Ali Coote assumed responsibility for a free-kick just outside the box which he curled the ball into the right hand side of the net. And four minutes after the break, Brentford B extended their lead. Jeremy Arthur got caught in possession and a player designated Trialist B nipped in before finishing with a delightful lob.
However, Maidstone soon drew level with two goals inside four minutes. The first came when Mullings fired in from close to the penalty spot and then just past the hour, the Stones were awarded a free-kick about 25 yards from goal. Ollie Muldoon’s up and down effort appeared to strike the inside of the goal before Coker pounced to make sure the ball crossed the line.
After this, Jack Paxman hit the inside of the right post and a flowing move involving substitute Joe Quigley, Paxman and substitute Loza saw Loza put the ball over the bar when well placed. But Loza was to have more luck one minute from time when he got on the end of a deep corner from Paxman and he tapped in from close range.
