Sevenoaks Town PSF

Sevenoaks Town 1-1 Maidstone United

Pre-season friendly // Attendance: 309 // Tuesday 24 July // Report by Ruth Tunnell

Maidstone United’s penultimate pre-season friendly ended in their first draw as they were held at Bostik South East Division new comers Sevenoaks Town.

On eight minutes, Andre Coker had an opportunity to give the Stones the lead. He raced onto a low pass forward and got into a good position just inside the box only to drag the ball wide of the far post.

Then three minutes later Sevenoaks took the lead. Zac Atwood suffered a head injury after a clash with Will de Havilland and from the resultant free-kick, Tom Ripley headed the ball on and Danny Cumbers finished just inside the left post.

But Maidstone equalised just before the interval. Stuart Lewis drove forward from midfield and released Coker who took the ball in his stride before finishing coolly past former Maidstone keeper Ben Bridle-Card.

The Stones stepped up the pace in the initial stages after the break and they went close a couple of times early on. Joe Quigley headed just over from a Seth Nana Twumasi cross before Quigley was involved again when he spun away from substitute Luke Colman and forced Bridle-Card into a one handed save.

Then from the resultant corner, Blair Turgott’s ball in was met by De Havilland who headed the ball down but Bridle-Card did well to push the ball behind once more. However, this was to be the last time that either keeper was seriously tested as the game ended in stalemate.
