The Good, the Bad and the Ugly…
A month of real progress at the Gallagher Stadium, and in the first time for while fans are loving what they’re watching. Three wins, battling displays, plenty of goals and an upward surge in the league standings. Game on!
The high point?
Matt McClure’s sensation hat-trick against St Albans – with a striker who scores goals, anything is possible.
What about the rest in September?
Leaders Wealdstone may have ended September on top with a five-point advantage, but the team of the month were actually Slough Town – the Rebels enjoyed four straight Vanarama National League South wins in a row and cup romp. Weymouth, Dorking and Braintree all took ten points from their four matches, while Hemel won three of theirs.
The month’s star man…
Matt McClure isn’t the only one causing a stir. Gavin Hoyte has been excellent and the right-back’s assist record is second to none.
From the manager’s office:
John Still is liking the mood of last month. “When we get into the vein we can score, when when get into the vein we can defend – but we can’t have a Wealdstone or a Dorking again,” he said.
How do things compare to last September?
It’s hard to compare considering there were seven National League games in September 2018. The Stones won two of them, drawing one and losing four.
Maidstone are the best supported side in the division. A fantastic 1,861 on average have attended this season. More than 150 more than Dulwich Hamlet, the second best backed club.
Who are the strikers blazing a trail?
Havant’s Jonah Ayunga still leads the way with nine, even if most of those came in August. Second is Wealdstone striker Ross Lafayette with eight while Liam Nash (Hemel Hempstead) Jake Robinson (Billericay) Jason Prior (Dorking) and Joe Iaciofano (St Albans) all have seven to their names.
What does October look like?
After the FA Cup at Hitchin, it’s two tough away days. Bath, who have just won once in eight, followed by Braintree who took ten points from 12 last month. Then Billericay, who may not have Glenn Tamplin but they still have plenty of good players! They’ve drawn their last four.
