Over the last few days, Stones TV has shown the goals from last season on Facebook and Twitter.
Stones TV caught up with him to see how he’s getting on and what he thought of that day back in December.
Hey Saidou, hope you’re keeping well and congratulations on winning goal of the season.
I am doing good. I took two weeks out to let my body recover but I am now back on it and focusing on fitness and technical work before pre-season, whenever that is!
I hope everyone’s keeping well, these are sure unreal times. Thanks to the fans for voting for that goal, it means a lot to me.
So hitting rewind what were your thoughts when Blackpool was pulled out the hat?
The first thing I did was look at the league table. I didn’t know much about them but to draw a top five League One side – as they were at the time – was such an opportunity.
To be fair, not many gave us a chance against Torquay in the previous round because of their league position. We took the confidence from that into the Blackpool game.
What were your first impressions of Bloomfield Road, were you aware of the history of club?
It’s not everyday you get to play somewhere like that but as ambitious players, it’s somewhere you aspire to play every week. The set-up was great, everything you’d expect from a club that’s played at the highest level.
I didn’t know much about the history but it was all around the place and we got to see the statue of Stanley Matthews on the way in to the ground.
It was weird because although I didn’t know much about them and I guess they didn’t know much about me or the other players, I wanted them to notice us that day and leave them with something they would remember.
So the goal. Coley knocks the free kick long, Marshall wins the header, you see the ball coming your way. What’s going through your head?
A few times before the ball had dropped in that area and I said to Ross to head it down and I’d be there for it. It did and I struck it. I started celebrating straight away and then stopped for a split second to check it had actually gone in.
It was amazing moment and I remember watching it back on the way home and again on Match of the Day.
It sounds odd but I look back on the game not for the goal but as a disappointment because I didn’t want the journey to end there. We were 45 minutes from the third round!
Thank you for speaking to us Saidou, take care and hopefully we see you when all this is over
Thank you Goochy. Stay safe everyone and look forward to seeing you all at the Gallagher real soon.
