First and most important, everything football-related is in context against what is hopefully a once in a lifetime and unprecedented situation, in which many thousands of people have lost their lives and maybe livelihoods.
We are all thankful to those that selflessly battle everyday to save as many lives as possible whilst potentially putting their own at risk.
Fully appreciating that in comparison to the great sadness that has arisen due to this pandemic, the unfinished 2019/20 Suburban League season is of no consequence.
Kane and I thought with the season now formally over, it would be a good time for me to provide an under-23s update and do some end of season thank yous.
We would like to thank all the supporters who came to watch our games when the first team were away and hope you enjoyed them. It’ll be great to welcome as many as possible back, as and when we are in action again.
We’d like to thank Bill, Oliver and Terry for giving us the opportunity to manage the U23s and for their support throughout the season. Our thanks also to John and Hakan, wishing John all the best in a well-deserved retirement and Hakan good luck for next season.
On our match days, Val and Ian Jacobs were ever-present to run the turnstile, do some stewarding and keep the boys safe with their first aid know-how, and Helen Cooper snapped hundreds of action photos for us which the boys loved to see. Tony Birchard was always on hand to help with kit and equipment, John Gooch put in the hours on the media front and Ian Tucker kept the paperwork in check. Not forgetting our sponsors Captivate and Educate – without their support we could not have started this team. Thank you all.
Kane and I have a certain way in how we approach things, every little detail is considered. We believe it is important and it would not be possible without the dedication, input and expertise of the management team, and what a team. Massive, massive thank you for everything to Luke, Antonio, Steve, Matt, Lewis, Margaret and their families.
We’d like to thank players’ families for not only supporting but giving up their time to bring some of the younger lads to training and matches
Final and biggest thank you is to our players, what a pleasure it’s been. It’s a strange end and I’d love to be writing this having watched them celebrate, deservedly, winning the league but that’s not going to happen, despite being 10 points clear.
There may not be a medal for your efforts this season but you are all winners.
Having got to know the group, and the individuals within it, as well as we have over the past 10 months, we’ll be back next season, whenever that is, even more determined to win it, twice!
Stay safe and hope to see everyone again, fit and well, as soon as possible.
