Maidstone United 0-2 Dartford

Maidstone United 0-2 Dartford // National League South // Match report by Ruth Tunnell // 14 November 2020

Maidstone United were beaten in the league for only the second time this season as Dartford extended their lead at the top of the table thanks to goals from Tom Bonner and Charlie Sheringham.

The first half was a largely quiet and closely contested affair. With two minutes gone, Noah Chesmain accidentally played the ball to Jack Barham who ran down the right but his low cross into the box was comfortably gathered by Ravan Constable.

It wasn’t until 37 minutes had passed that either team went close. Dartford were possibly just beginning to get slightly on top when Jacob Berekely-Agyepong was clipped by Justin Amaluzor about 30 yards from goal and in a central position. Jack Jebb took the resultant free-kick which dropped inches wide of the right post.

Then three minutes later, Jebb exchanged passes with Berekely-Agyepong before driving a low ball into the area which just missed the far post and the arriving Barham.

The second half continued in a similar manner with nothing to choose between the two sides and with neither keeper really tested throughout. On 66 minutes, the Stones pieced together a neat move which ended with Gavin Hoyte passing to Amaluzor who moved towards the box and dragged a left footed effort wide of the near post.

Just before this, Maidstone had made a double substitution with Charlie Seaman and Zihni Temelci replacing Dominic Odusanya and Joan Luque. And it was Seaman who had an effort on goal when he shot from out wide on the left but Craig King collected his effort with ease.

It wasn’t until 13 minutes from time that there was suddenly something to note as Dartford took the lead. A deep free-kick into the box was headed down by Conor Essam and Tom Bonner reacted quickly to take a touch and lash a decent finish past Ravan Constable.

And just five minutes later, Dartford made sure of the points. Jazzi Barmum-Bobb sent a long clearance downfield and Joe Ellul headed the ball against substitute Charlie Sheringham who took full advantage to keep his composure and drive the ball into the back of the net.

With a minute remaining Sam Corne got into space down the right. He put a dangerous low cross into the box which George Porter desperately tried to reach but he couldn’t get a touch and the ball went wide.
