Maidstone United finally broke
the five goal barrier in spectacular style with a 9-0
drubbing of a woefully poor Sporting Bengal United side.
But such was the dominance of The Stones they could
have, and should have, easily added at least another
couple of goals as Alan Walker remarked after the match.
He said: I think the lads have done well but
we are disappointed as we should have had 15 or 16 goals
in the end with the amount of chances we missed. But
some people got greedy and went for personal glory and
at the end of the day I think we could have made a big
inroad into Beckenhams goal difference.
The game was dreadfully one sided as Sporting Bengal
struggled to escape their own half for long periods
and didnt managed a shot on goal all game. Straight
from the kick-off, The Stones were by far the better
side and the first goal arrived after 14 minutes when
Nick Hegley scuffed a high cross into the box and Ryan
Royston managed to force the ball over the line with
a header.
It looked as if Mo Takaloo had added a second a minute
later but his effort was ruled out for a foul on the
keeper Abdul Hakim. However, with 17 minutes gone, Hegleys
cross was glanced in by Leroy Huggins.
With 21 minutes played, Bengal finally managed to break
up field but their attack was easily snuffed out by
Mario Celaire who released Lee Sperring. Sperring ran
to the edge of the pitch and pulled the ball back for
Takaloo to score.
It looked as if a thrashing was on the cards when Maidstone
added a 4th with only 25 minutes played. A good passing
move saw Scott Lindsey work the ball out to Nathan Paul
who advanced down the wing and mis-hit a cross which
floated in at the far corner of the net.
But it took until the 40th minute for Maidstone to
come close to scoring again. Paul played the ball to
Sperring who crossed for Hegley and he saw his shot
cannon off the inside of the bar and bounce away to
safety.
Then 5 minutes after half time, Sperring got his 9th
goal of the season when he latched onto a loose ball
inside the area and lashed the ball past Hakim for what
was his final kick of the game as he was replaced by
the returning Simon Austin.
Royston then headed wide twice and Takaloo rounded
Hakim only to fail to put the ball in the net but The
Stones finally added to their tally with 61 minutes
played. Takaloo went past Hakim again but managed to
give the ball to Huggins who coolly finished from 12
yards.
Takaloo did finally get his second of the game though
when Hegleys cross reached him on the by-line
and he cut inside into space and blasted the ball into
the ball into the net.
Takaloo should have completed his hat-trick in the
72nd minute when he blasted over from a good position
but Huggins did claim his with 79 minutes gone. Sam
Tydeman had an age to control the ball and sent a great
long ball over the top into Huggins path who entered
the area and comfortably beat Hakim with a low shot.
Hakim then denied Hegley with a good save before Simon
Austin rounded off the scoring in stoppage time, converting
a penalty after substitute Aaron Lacy was brought down
in the box.
