| Maidstone United bounced back from their defeat against Tooting and Mitcham in the best possible way by claiming their second victory over Godalming Town inside a month.
This was not a game for football purist however, as there was so little action it was surely the most tedious Maidstone game Stones supporters will have attended for quite some time.
There were a couple of changes to The Stones starting line up from Saturday with Lee Shearer, Jason Barton and Mo Takaloo coming back into the side but the most significant change was a late one as Errison Ahwan replaced Sam Tydeman after The Stones’ captain felt his hamstring tighten in the warm up.
The first half saw very little goal mouth action from either side but with 18 minutes played, Mo Takaloo put Nick Hegley in on goal and although his shot went through the legs of Godalming keeper Andy Brooks, his effort was cleared off the line.
Then with half time looming the boredom was temporarily relieved when Maidstone took the lead thanks to a scrappy goal. Aaron Lacy’s throw bounced in the box and was flicked into the path of Ahwan who finished from close range.
In the second half the home side took the initiative as they searched for an equaliser but they actually created very little going forwards and on 64 minutes Hegley went close again forcing Brooks to save at his near post.
However, with 90 minutes on the clock the home side suddenly found themselves with a good chance to equalise when Pat Mullin could only punch the ball out as far as substitute Ahmed Tchankou. The Godalming home support had been singing: “Who needs Rooney when you have Tchankou” but there was to be no Premier League finishing from Tchankou for he blazed his shot high and wide.
