| For the second game in succession The Stones came from a goal behind to register their third victory in a row thanks to an equaliser from Lynden Rowland and a headed winner from Errison Ahwan.
Compared to recent performances, this was probably Maidstone’s poorest for a number of weeks but this was not a massive concern for United’s manager Alan Walker who said: “The massive positive aspect of today’s game is the fact that we got the three points. We have been playing well over the last couple of weeks and deservedly winning games but today we didn’t play well so I think it’s a good sign that we still managed to get three points. It keeps our momentum going and roll on Tuesday’s game at Corithan Casuals; the games can’t come quick enough for us at the moment.”
An uninspiring scrappy first half saw Godalming take the lead with twenty five minutes played. Ryan Royston let the ball bounce close to the edge of the area and Glen Stanley reacted quickly to curl a fabulous half volley over Pat Mullin.
However, within eight minutes the visitors relinquished the lead when Craig Roser lofted a high cross into the box. Godalming’s keeper Andy Parkinson came racing from his line to attempt to catch the ball but he misjudged his leap allowing Lynden Rowland the simple task of heading in his thirteenth goal of the season.
Simon Austin then tested Parkinson on the verge of half time when he spun and shot in the box and just on the other side of the break, Godalming’s Joe Chadiram found himself in space in the area thanks to poor Stones defending but he dragged his shot wide of the right hand post.
Slowly, Maidstone were beginning to take control of the game and a flurry of corners with twenty minutes remaining saw them take full advantage of their pressure as Sam Tydeman sent over a deep cross which was powered into the net by Ahwan.
There were some nervy moments for The Stones there after, especially when Wes Harrison got the better of Nathan Paul and worked his way into a good shooting position but fortunately for Maidstone he couldn’t hit the target and United held on for their tenth league win of the season.
