Maidstone United's interest in the Kent Senior Cup is over for another season but despite fielding a number of reserve players, The Stones gave their Blue Square South opponents a stern test and if it had not been for James Peacock's dismissal just before the break, then there may have been a different outcome to this game.
The Stones started strongly and on 11 minutes a neat move from Maidstone saw James Pinnock pass to Ant Bodle who picked out Nerada Pascal and Pascal's low cross fell to Ashley Dann who saw his shot deflected wide. Then from the resultant corner, Pascal's delivery came out to Keelan Mooney and he forced Gareth Williams into a good save.
Then on 23 minutes, another good move involving Tom Parkinson, Ant Bodle and Keelan Mooney ended with Mooney crossing for Dann but he blazed his effort over the bar.
In between, Bromley had their first shot on target when Luke l'Anson burst into space and hit a low shot which was well saved by Steve Northwood in the Maidstone goal.
As the half progressed the visitors began to gain the upper hand and Ryan Hall twice tested Northwood inside two minutes before Hall had more luck with his third attempt on goal. With just two minutes to go before the break, a long ball over the top of the Maidstone defence fell to Warren McBean. James Peacock set off in pursuit of the Bromley striker and brought him down and as he was the last man he was promptly shown the red card by the referee Mr Knight. Hall stepped up to take the free-kick and from 30 yards he curled the ball past the static Northwood.
Just after the break Hall went close again with a drive before Bromley doubled their lead on 55 minutes. Ali Chaaban got in behind the Maidstone defence and he squared the ball to Warren McBean who had time to turn and shoot past Northwood.
The game then entered a lull but on 70 minutes, substitute Jerome Sobers picked out McBean and Northwood came rushing from his goal to make a smart block and then three minutes later, the visitors had an appeal for a penalty turned down after they thought that Tom Parkinson had tripped Chaaban inside the box.
Then 14 minutes from time, The Stones had an excellent chance to get back into the game but from a good position, Pinnock blasted the ball over the bar and then two minutes from the end, Maidstone were awarded an indirect free-kick in the box but they rushed the kick and the opportunity was squandered.
