Maidstone United must be beginning to wonder when their luck will turn after they were held to a draw for the fourth game in a row.
Unlike in the matches against Staines and Hornchurch, The Stones created numerous chances and they should have had a comfortable lead when Horsham equalised in controversial circumstances on 69 minutes.
However, once Claude Seanla had clearly handled the ball to bring it under control before curling it into the net, Maidstone's confidence drained away and apart from when Meshach Nugent had a header cleared off the line, The Stones did not threaten the visitors again.
The game suddenly sprung to life midway through the first half and on 24 minutes, Nathan Paul expertly brought the ball under control before laying it off to Taylor Sinfield who whipped in a good cross but Elliot Bradbrook's header was held by Rob Tolfrey.
Then eleven minutes later, Jay Saunders picked up a loose ball twenty five yards from goal and his rising drive looked to be going in until Tolfrey got a vital touch to send it over the bar.
The resultant corner from James Pinnock caused havoc in the Horsham defence and defender Yinka Salaam was fortunate to see his header strike the bar before being scrambled away and when the cross came back in, Nugent's effort went wide.
Straight after the break, Horsham knocked a long ball forwards for Seanla to chase and a mix up between Ben Lewis and Andy Walker nearly led to the Horsham striker gaining possession but Lewis managed to get the ball clear.
After this scare, The Stones began to up the tempo and on 52 minutes they should have taken the lead when Nugent sent in an excellent cross which was met by the diving Bradbrook and his header went wide of the left hand post. Then seconds later, another good move from The Stones ended with Paul driving a low shot through a crowd of players that was gathered by Tolfrey.
However, the deadlock was finally broken on the hour when Nugent battled hard to win the ball and as he entered the box, the Maidstone striker showed great awareness to roll a pass into the path of James Pinnock who fired in The Stones' first goal for three weeks.
Four minutes later, Maidstone should have made the points safe when indecision in the Horsham defence let in Paul but with only Tolfrey to beat, Paul's shot was wild.
Predictably, The Stones were then made to pay for their wastefulness in front of goal just five minutes later when Mark Knee sent a deep cross towards the back post. Seanla and Ashley Ulph jumped for the ball and when it came down, Seanla clearly brought it under control using his arm before curling the finish past the stranded Andy Walker.
Conceding such a goal unsurprisingly had a negative effect on The Stones but they did have one more opportunity to snatch the winner. On 15 minutes Bradbrook's corner from the right picked out Nugent but his header was cleared off the line and with it any hopes Maidstone had of winning for the first time in ten league games were dashed.
