A late equaliser from Meshach Nugent gave The Stones a share of the points after Maidstone United once again came from two goals down.
It was a surprise that the pitch had been deemed playable following an inspection as large sections of the surface closely resembled a ploughed field and unsurprisingly, the conditions had a significant impact on the quality of the match.
On eight minutes the ball was swung out to Matt Hann on the right wing and with the Maidstone defence caught cold, Hann drilled a cross into the box and Gavin McCallum flicked the ball into the left hand side of the net.
Four minutes later, Chukki Eribenne headed over and then on 24 minutes, McCallum's shot on the turn went wide but this was to prove the only goalmouth action in the remainder of the first half as despite enjoying a large share of possession, Maidstone could not test Paul Nicholls in the Sutton goal.
Three minutes after the break, Sutton did come close to scoring when Dean Palmer's diving header just went wide but they finally did edge further ahead on 58 minutes. Craig Dundas intercepted a pass from Nathan Paul and fed McCallum and the Canadian Under 21 international dispatched a finish finish in off the far post.
Maidstone then should have drawn level quickly after this when Lloyd Blackman put Nugent clear and with only Nicholls to beat, Nugent poked the ball wide.
The play then immediately swung again to the other end and McCallum had an excellent chance to put the game beyond The Stones but he dithered and Ben Lewis blocked his first shot before the Sutton player blazed over with his second attempt.
Then seconds later, Hann lashed a rising drive goalwards and Walker made a great save to tip the ball over the bar.
But after this brief flurry of pressure, Sutton began to fade out of the game and on 67 minutes, Maidstone were handed a lifeline when Elliot Bradbrook's shot was adjudged to have struck a Sutton arm and Blackman converted his second penalty inside three games.
As the game moved towards its conclusion, Chukki Eribenne found himself bearing down on goal but a combination of Walker and Ashley Ulph saw the Sutton striker disposed at a crucial moment.
And then with the game in stoppage time, Nugent was once again presented with a good opportunity and this time he showed strength to hold off the Sutton defender before thumping a smart finish past the stranded Nicholls to give The Stones a deserved point.
