Maidstone United have been dumped out of the Kent Senior Cup as they slumped to their third consecutive defeat in a game that featured three excellent goals.
Like in so many recent matches, Maidstone were the stronger side in the first half and carved out a number of chances. With just seven minutes gone Tom Parkinson, returning to the side after injury, saw his shot stopped by Jack Delo in the Folkestone goal before a minute later, Steve Elliot’s effort was also blocked and then Adrian Stone put the follow up wide.
At the other end, Andy Walker was called into action to deny former Stones favourite Simon Austin on 35 minutes before Keelan Mooney picked out Roland Edge inside the area only for Edge to head wide.
On 41 minutes, Mooney once again delivered another good cross which this time found Adrian Stone but he could not hit the target. However, two minutes later Ant Bodle was to have more luck when he picked up the ball in midfield, surged forwards and struck a fantastic curling effort which flew past Delo.
Just before the break, Austin’s header from a deep cross failed to trouble Walker and then after the interval, James Everitt found another former Maidstone player, Darren Smith who curled his shot wide.
As the second half progressed, The Stones began to sit back and on 60 minutes the home side equalised with a fantastic strike from 30 yards from Everitt.
But things were to get even worse for Maidstone just sixty seconds later when again their defence stood off and this time Liam Dickson took full advantage to send another spectacular effort from distance past the stranded Walker.
Four minutes later, The Stones escaped further punishment when Folkestone hit the post following a corner but on 67 minutes, Mooney came close to forcing an equaliser when his shot from close to the area looked to be heading in until Delo parried the ball.
Bodle then picked out Adrian Stone inside the area only for the Maidstone striker to shoot straight at Delo before on 78 minutes Bodle was once again the provider as he found Charlie Stimson but Delo made a straight forward save at the base of his left hand post.
Then nine minutes from time, James Peacock burst forwards and slipped the ball to Adrian Stone who was in a good position but he drove his shot wide and with it went any hopes Maidstone had of getting back into the tie.
