Maidstone United’s poor run of form continues after they were beaten for the fourth time in a row in the clash of The Stones at Homelands.
For 65 minutes of this game, Maidstone were in contention for their first home win of the season but then they were undone by two quick goals from Richard Jolly which killed their hopes of getting a much needed victory.
Despite losing in midweek, the home side started confidently and on seven minutes Colin Richmond went close with an effort from just outside the box.
Unfortunately for Maidstone though, they gifted the visitors the lead on 11 minutes when United’s defence got caught out by a short corner to Danny Spendlove who whipped the ball towards the near post and Kieron Knight was given the freedom to head the ball into the net.
Four minutes later a suicidal back pass from Richmond presented Knight with another opportunity but this time Andy Walker made a crucial save.
Maidstone were looking to get back into the game quickly and they managed to equalise with 21 minutes played when a fabulous ball from Cedric Abraham found Tommy Whitnell who showed good composure and strength to round Jonathan North before side footing in his third goal of the season for The Stones.
Shortly afterwards Richmond’s attempted pass to Tom Mills fell short allowing Kurtney Brooks to pick out Knight who scooped the ball over the bar from a good position.
Then at the other end, Dean Rance fired narrowly over from just outside the box before Richmond had a good opportunity to give Maidstone the lead but he opted to drill the ball across the six yard box rather than try and test North in the Wealdstone goal.
Despite being the better side, Maidstone then gifted the visitors another goal on 35 minutes when Spendlove’s corner hung up in the air due to the strong wind and with Walker drawn from his goal, Jolly had the simple task of scoring from close range.
Wealdstone’s advantage did not last long though as on 40 minutes Maidstone broke quickly and Nathan Paul played a square ball into the path of Danny Hockton who lashed a fantastic shot from 20 yards into the top left hand corner of the net.
After the break the visitors began to gain the upper hand and on 53 minutes Lee Chappell’s wind assisted free-kick was caught by Walker who was bundled over the line as he took the ball and after consulting the linesman the referee, Mr Lennard, ruled the goal out for a foul.
Just past the hour some good work from Hockton in the box created an opportunity for Rance who missed the target and then on 65 minutes Wealdstone took the lead again when Peter Dean found Jolly who confidently dispatched the ball past Walker.
Then just two minutes later, Maidstone’s faint hope of getting back into the game for the third time were dashed when Wealdstone got in down the left hand side and with Abraham over committed, Jolly had the simple task of completing his hat-trick from close range.
