Management
duo Alan Walker and Lloyd Hume delivered the first of their
promised summer transfer signings on Bank Holiday Monday when
they secured the signature of central defender Errison Ahwan
from Beckenham Town.
Alan Walker was delighted with his acquisition saying "We
have signed an outstanding player in Errison. He is 26 years
of age and supporters can expect to see a central defender
in the mould of Mario Celaire."
"He is strong aerially and is very comfortable on the
ball and prefers to play to feet rather than long. He is very
similar physically to Mario, in that he is well over 6 feet
tall and he also has immense physical presence."
Ahwan has played previously in the Isthmian League for both
Croydon and Dulwich Hamlet. Stones fans may well recall that
Errison scored for Beckenham Town at Bourne Park during the
classic 4-3 Kent League Cup Quarter-Final last season when
he rose to head home Becks' first goal.
The club has also arranged two further friendlies against
Erith & Belvedere and Aveley. The revised programme is
now:
Saturday July 15th vs Hythe Town (a) 3-00
Tuesday 18th July vs Thamesmead Town (a) 7-45
Saturday 22nd July vs Bournemouth (a) 3-00
Tuesday 25th July vs Erith & Belvedere (a) 7-45
Saturday 29th July vs Bly Spartans (a) 3-00
Monday 31st July vs Folkestone Invicta (a) 7-45
Thursday 3rd August vs Lordswood (a)
Saturday 5th August vs Beckenham Town (KL Challenge Shield
at Bourne Park)
Saturday 12th August vs Aveley (a) 3-00
25th May 2006. 9.00am
New joint manager Alan Walker was able to confirm today
that the Stones were in the hunt for two new signings which
they hope to make an announcement on in the next 48 hours.
However, Walker would not be drawn on who Lloyd and himself
were in negotiations with as a number of other clubs were
also involved. Speaking today Walker said; "We have been
concentrating on identifying players where we feel there are
weaknesses in the current squad and these players will meet
this criteria, but with other clubs interested, we are going
to have to work hard to secure their signings."
"A big plus for us though is that all of last years squad
have expressed a desire to stay with the club next season
and we feel that as things stand we would certainly give a
good account of ourselves next season. One thing for sure
though is that with this years re-organisation, next years
league will be a lot stronger and speaking to people in the
league, there are a lot of clubs going for it next season
and many clubs are throwing money into a promotion bid. We
are not one of those clubs as we'll be looking to consolidate
next season, but we too will be aiming as high as we can next
season and with the squad we have already, I believe we can
compete."
22nd May 2006. 9.00am
Maidstone United chairman Paul Bowden-Brown has announced
that Alan Walker and Lloyd Hume will jointly manage the first
team next season.
Lloyd Hume has been in charge of the team for two seasons,
with Alan Walker overseeing coaching duties. By joining forces
Paul Bowden-Brown believes it will offer the newly promoted
team the best possible start: "They are both talented
individuals and work together really well. By combining their
strengths I think it will offer real leadership to the players
as they face the challenge of a higher league."
Alan Walker commented: "Lloyd and I have worked together
for many years and are totally committed to Maidstone United
Football Club, as are all the coaching staff. It's going to
be an exciting season for everyone at the club and as a champion
side I hope we'll hit the ground running and make our mark
in the league."
Lloyd Hume added: "Consolidation is what we will be
looking for in this our first season and a mid table finish
would be OK. Although in saying that, our personal expectations
will always be to win whatever league we are competing in."
Maidstone United won the league and cup double last season
and have secured promotion to the Ryman League Division One
South. Next season there will be a host of mouth-watering
local derbies against Ashford Town, Chatham Town, Cray Wanderers,
Dartford, Dover Athletic and Sittingbourne.
