Youth and Reserve Presentation Evening - Saturday 9 June
After a long and successful season,
players from Maidstone United Youth teams were awarded at
the annual end of season presentation, on Saturday at Holcombe
sports club.
Players, family and friends attended the evening as well
as Chairman of the football club Paul Bowden Brown and sponsor
of the youth section, Whitehead Monckton.
This has been yet another successful campaign for Maidstone
Uniteds youth most notably the Under 18s achieving the
league title and winning a tournament in Holland.
Also players who have worked their way through the age categories
gained places for some first team matches, showing the structure
works. Elsewhere all the other teams showed great determination
and commitment throughout the season, which is promising for
the future.
Chairman Bowden Brown said, The youth is important
to this club, the future is the youth. I would like to say
thanks to all the parents who take the players to and from
the games because without them the players would never get
to the matches. We are happy to see that the system is working,
as some players have made first team debuts which is great
news for the club and could give Lloyd and Alan a few headaches.
Sponsors Whitehead Monkton represented by Adrian Robbins,
who presented the awards said, We are delighted to be
able to support the Maidstone United Youth teams. Our business
has been in the community for more than 200 years and we are
pleased we can give something back by helping the youth progress.
Billy Morrison attended, despite his recent broken leg and
won the outstanding achievement award. He is proof that working
through the age categories can pay off, as this season he
achieved a first team debut and a call up to the England schoolboys
team. When asked about his season he said this, For
me the best moment of the season was the England schoolboy
call up, this was a real honour to represent my country. Playing
for the Maidstone first team was also an excellent experience.
The worst part of the season was breaking my leg. When it
happened I knew it was serious but I hope to be back to full
fitness soon.
When asked about his career at Maidstone he said, If
you work hard and are dedicated enough then working your way
through the age categories can lead to breaking into the first
team.
As for the future Billy said, I hope to get back to
full fitness and stay with Maidstone. Hopefully I should make
some reserves appearances and maybe a couple for the first
team.
Pete Nott and Tony Cornwell, Under 18 managers received the
much deserved Clubman of the Year award. They have worked
together for some time and for five years with the same players,
the pinnacle achievement, occurring this year, with the Under
18 side winning all but four games in a successful league
campaign. In this time they have won four league titles and
two cups.
