Stones boss Peter Nott is
continuing his preparations for the new season. Here
is his latest update.
We are pleased to announce the signing of Simon Glover
from Chelmsford City, the 28 year old centre midfielder
/ centre half has a wealth of Conference and Ryman experience
and has previously played for Wycombe Wanderers, Welling
Utd, Dover Athletic, Folkestone Invicta, Heybridge Swifts,
Ashford Town, Bromley and Tonbridge Angels.
Simon missed a large part of last season through injury
but recovered in time to feature in the end of season
play off games for Chelmsford. Simon lives in Maidstone
and is delighted to be joining his home town club that
his late father John Glover served so well in the 80s,
and without doubt his versatility and leadership will
be a great asset to the team.
We have agreed terms with full back Rob Carter to join
us from Thamesmead Town. Rob previously played for our
Ryman youth team and Reserve teams and during that time
he was an ever present for England Schoolboys including
an appearance at Wembley. He relunctantly left at the
start of last season to join Bromley before eventually
signing for Thamesmead. Rob is a very commited player
and can't wait to get back into a Stones shirt.
We have also been in discussions with Welling United
to allow promising youngsters Jake Hobbs and Adam Marsh
to train with us during the pre season with a view to
both players signing on a dual registration basis. Jake
can either play up front or wide right and netted five
times in 17 games for Welling last year in the Conference,
whilst Adam is a centre forward who netted four goals
in three Kent Senior Cup games for Welling last season.
One player that will not be featuring for us next season
is Chris Saunders who has decided to join up with Cray
Wanderers, unfortunately due to injury Chris never managed
a settled run in the team since joining us late last
season but he is a great lad and we wish him all the
best.
The squad is shaping up well now and we have also invited
some other players along to pre-season training ,so
competition for places will be high which is a healthy
situation. We report back for training at Cobdown on
the 6 July and we expect to see all of the boys come
back in good shape so we can get off to a great start.

The Stones are delighted
to announce that we have completed the signings of two
ex Stones defenders Nick Davis and Marc Clarey.
Nick joins us from Tonbridge Angels where he spent
a frustrating season recovering from a tendon operation
which restricted his 1st team appearances to a solitary
game towards the end of the campaign, however he is
now fully fit and raring to go again. Nick previously
played for the Stones back in our Kent League days under
Jim Ward and left to join Fisher Athletic where he was
an integral player in both their 'Double' and 'Treble'
winning teams which saw them capture the Rymans South
and Premier League titles along the way. Nick then signed
full time for Fisher as they gained promotion into the
Conference but was forced to leave due to their financial
demise and he linked up again with Jim Ward at Ramsgate
before being enticed over to Tonbridge at the start
of last season. 28 year old Nick has that 'winning mentality'
and brings a vast amount of experience to the team and
also possesses an excellent goal scoring record for
a central defender where he is a constant threat at
set pieces.
Marc joins from troubled Grays Athletic where he was
an ever present for them in the Conference after signing
from Waltham Forest in February. The Essex based 22
year old central defender relunctantly left the Stones
at the end of the 2007/08 season so he is extremely
pleased to be back and can't wait for the season to
start. Marc has also previously played for Billericay
and Maldon Town.
Nick and Marc will now link up with our other new signings
Simon Petit (Ramsgate) and Colin Richmond (Sittingbourne)
and discussions are also progressing well with a couple
of other targetted players so watch this space. We have
also invited a few players along to pre-season training
so we can take a closer look at them and they all have
experience at Rymans level or above.
We have also been busy in speaking to all of last seasons
squad and at this stage we also pleased to report that
the following players have all put pen to paper: Andy
Walker, James Peacock, Tom Parkinson, Butch Ulph, Ant
Bodle, Antonio Gonnella, Keelan Mooney, Adrian Stone
and Danny Hockton (who has a remaining year left on
the contract he signed on joining). In addition we will
also be signing many of our promising successful Reserve
/ Ryman team players and they will be given the opportunity
to impress and stake a place in the squad. As previously
reported Peter Hawkins, Roland Edge and Lynden Rowland
have all left the club whilst Nathan Paul, Jermaine
Darlington, Mark Corneille and Chris Saunders are still
considering their options. We will invite all 4 along
to pre-season training but it is important to remember
that we are working to a significantly reduced budget
this season so we will not have the resource available
to accomodate them all.
We report back for pre-season training at Cobdown on
Tuesday 6th July and myself, Tony and our new coach
Steve Nolan are busy finalising a programme to ensure
we get the players to peak fitness during this period
whilst at the same time making it enjoyable. We have
to date arranged 8 pre-season games and have one more
to finalise on the 24th July, however you will have
probably have noticed that they are all away games as
we have so far been unable to obtain any dates for home
fixtures which sadly means we will not generate any
income that comes your way when playing against high
profile clubs at home. Looking ahead we are also pleased
to confirm that we have secured training facilities
for every Tuesday night and Thursday night during the
season, although it is disappointing that we have to
travel to the Gillingham and Gravesend area's to find
these facilities as unfortunately there are not any
venues suitable or available in Maidstone!
We'll keep you posted on any further developments and
roll on the new season!

Peter Hawkins has confirmed
to us today that he will be joining Tonbridge Angels
for the forthcoming season.
We have tried very hard to persuade Peter to stay but
unfortunately we also have to take into consideration
the reduced budget we have available this season and
ultimately Peter feels it is in his best interests to
move on to pastures new.
Peter was outstanding for us last season and our efforts
will now be focussed on signing a suitable replacement.
1st June 10:00
We are pleased to announce the signing of two new players
and a new addition to our coaching team.
Simon Petit, a 28 year old midfielder, joins us from
Ramsgate after spending most of his playing career with
them apart from a brief spell with Maidstone United
under Jim Ward's reign in the Kent League. Simon has
a great attitude to the game and we look forward to
seeing his whole hearted displays in the centre of our
midfield, and he is also the owner of a very long throw.
We also welcome back Colin Richmond who previously
played for our Ryman Youth team under Tony Cornwell's
management before spending the last two years at Sittingbourne.
During that time Colin won both the Supporters' and
Players' Player of the Year awards. Colin is a very
intelligent player with an excellent range of passes
and he also chips in with his fair share of goals from
his midfield role.
We have also strengthened our first team coaching team
with the appointment of UEFA B Licensed Coach Steve
Nolan. Steve lives in Bearsted and currently coaches
at Gillingham FC and has previously been first team
coach / Assistant Manager at Dover Athletic, Sittingbourne
and Ashford Town mainly working with Clive Walker. Steve
is a great addition to our existing management team
and will be tasked to deliver quality training sessions
to enhance both the team's overall level of fitness
and specific area's of play that need improving.
We are also in the final stages of negotiations with
a couple of other new players that we have targetted
and we hope to make further announcements very shortly.
The majority of last season's squad have also put pen
to paper however as we still have some players who are
considering our revised offers we will bring you news
as soon as all discussions have been finalised.
