I’m maybe a little bit nervous about our game against Hornchurch but I am definitely more excited about the match. When you are involved in football you look forward to the big games and days like tomorrow.
We trained last night and everyone is in good spirits. Winning breeds confidence and is clearly a good habit and although we have to get three points tomorrow as we have won five out of our last six matches, including the last three games, we know we can do it.
Hornchurch are a good side and so will provide hard opposition. They are well organised but we got a draw away at Lowestoft and no one fancied us to beat Bury so I think that on our day we can beat most sides in this league.
At half time on Monday when we were drawing nil nil with Folkestone we told the boys that both Hastings and Aveley were losing to give them an extra bit of incentive. If the same situation arises tomorrow then we would do the same thing again but it is important that we concentrate on getting the win against Hornchurch.
It will be frustrating if things don’t go our way tomorrow and we end up getting relegated. I think back to those games against Billericay and Canvey when we lost and if we had got something from those matches then it would have been in our hands tomorrow. However, the reason why we are in the relegation zone is due to our home form and at least we have given ourselves a chance tomorrow after picking up fifteen points from the last six games.
One of the things in our favour is that Aveley have to beat Hastings tomorrow if they are to stand any chance of staying up. I know a lot of people don’t think that Aveley will win but they have pulled off some shock results recently so they do have a chance of getting all three points.
I understand that a lot of Maidstone supporters will be at Honchurch, which will be good, as that will give the boys a lift. I’m pleased to say that every one is fit and so we have a full squad to pick from. We are ready for tomorrow and hopefully everything will go our way and we will avoid the drop.
