Notty's Notes

Peter Nott 3 September 2010

Last weekend performances against Bury Town and Margate left us both frustrated and disappointed as we only managed to gain a solitary point from both games.

I still can’t get to grips as to how we managed to throw away a well earned lead against Bury Town, as was the case against Hastings in our previous game we started brightly and got our noses in front before losing concentration and conceeding 2 soft goals shortly before the break. Despite our best efforts in the second half we couldn’t force an equaliser and the boys knew we had wasted a really good opportunity to register our first points of the season.

Just 48 hours later we were back in action and we were all very much up for Kent Derby against rivals Margate . Once again we took the lead and fought hard to protect it and were absolutely ‘gutted’ to see them equalise in the dying moments from a speculative long range shot. However we must take the positives out of this game and show the same work rate and commitment so we can begin to climb up the table.

It was good to see James Peacock return to the heart of our defence last weekend after serving his suspension and he instantly provided us with the physical presence we have been lacking. However the remaining missing players Ashley Ulph, Nick Davis and Mark Cornielle are not progressing as well as we had hoped with their respective injuries and they are now joined on the sidelines by Jermaine Darlington and Simon Petitt who are both suffering from hamstring injuries!

However on a positive note we are pleased to announce the signing of 29 year old central defender Joe Vines. We have been looking to bring in an experienced and robust character into the team and Joe certainly fits the bill. Joe spent the last five years as the influential captain of Tooting & Mitcham and left at the end of last season after a change of management at the club. After spending the pre season at Bromley Joe was allowed to leave due to budget restraints and has recently been playing for Sittingbourne on a game by game arrangement to keep himself fit. Joe trained with us last night and is available for selection tomorrow and on Tuesday against Concord Rangers before serving a 3 match suspension for a sending off whilst playing for Sittingbourne.

We are in action at home tomorrow against AFC Hornchurch who currently occupy ninth position in the league table after two home wins and two away defeats in their opening games. They have been busy during pre season assembling a strong and experienced looking squad which includes prolific striker Martin Tuohy who has scored over 60 Ryman league goals in the last 2 seasons for East Thurrock and Aveley so we are expecting another tough game.

Thanks for your support so far this season and we will be fighting every inch of the way to get you that win you desperately deserve.
