How do you get to the Gallagher Stadium on match days? Could you do the last mile on foot?
Maidstone United are the first club to launch The Last Mile initiative, brought to you by The Mason Mile and The Family Mile.
Funded by the Mason Foundation and Sport England, it’s a walk from Jubilee Square to every home game, with the launch taking place on Saturday 7 March – ahead of the Kent derby against Welling United.
On the launch day, all children aged 10 and under – taking part in The Last Mile with their family – will gain free admission to the game, as long as they are accompanied by a paying adult.
Wouldn’t it be great to see a Black and Amber army make its way from the Town Hall, through the town centre and down James Whatman Way? As well as clocking up some steps, it will be a great advert for family football in the town.
If you’re an individual, you can join in too and help make a great atmosphere for new families coming along to support the Stones.
Can we look back in a few years’ time at the phenomenon of the Last Mile and say: ‘We did it first and we did it best’.
Families who sign up to The Family Mile Club and record their miles through the Strava app will be entitled to rewards on reaching set milestones throughout the year. These include family swims, rollerskating, soft play and more.
Registration for the Last Mile is free, so come and sign up at www.familymile.com.
You can also rack up miles in your own time or check out some of the group walks by liking and following The Family Mile Facebook page.
One such walking group is The Family Mile at Whatman Park. Just over the river from the Gallagher Stadium, the walk starts from Freedom Leisure at 12:15 on Fridays.
